  • 23 Spanish Chapter Book Series Your Kids Will Love

So your kid has mastered Spanish picture books, and they're ready for a challenge? Or maybe you're looking for great family read-alouds in Spanish? We got you covered!

We present to you 23 Chapter Book Series in Spanish that your kids will love. We've got four different reading levels represented so your kids can move from beginner chapter books (level 1) up through the more difficult ones (level 4)!

We focus on chapter book series, for the simple benefit that if your kids like the first book, there are many more to read!

This list is divided into three sections.

  • Original Spanish Series
  • Excellent Translated Favorites
  • Highly Addictive Twaddle*

*“Twaddle” is a term used in Charlotte Mason homeschool circles to denote books that are more like candy than a good meal. The titles under “Highly Addictive Twaddle” are not high quality literature, but many young readers have been enticed to read independently in their minority language through twaddle.

The books in this list are books that our booklist curator, Joey, or myself have personally read aloud to our children. In cases where there are 10+ books in a series, we have not always read every book in the series, however we have read enough to confidently recommend it to you.

My personal favorite Original Spanish series. Follow a cheeky Teporingo and his animal friends all over the majestic Volcán Popocatéptl. It's Frog and Toad in a Narnia-like world. Gorgeous illustrations by the author.

Reto en el desierto

Las crónicas de Narnia

by C.S. Lewis

Level 4, 7 books

This is the most challenging series on this list, however, I had to include one of the best all time chapter book series.

Highly Addictive Twaddle

*In case you missed the explanation earlier: “Twaddle” is a term used in Charlotte Mason homeschool circles to denote books that are more like candy than a good meal. Be aware the titles below are not high quality literature, but many young readers have been enticed to read independently in their minority language through stories such as these. This is a shame-free zone. 🙂

Hombre Mosca

by Tedd Arnold

Level 1, 10+ books

Follow the stinky, smelly, and hilarious pursuits of Fly Guy in this series for beginning readers.

Often available through Scholastic for a better price.

Los tipos malos

by Aaron Blabey

Level 2, 7 books

Scratchy illustrations and comic book-like layouts make this series less intimidating to early readers.

Often available through Scholastic for a better price.

Geronimo Stilton

by Elisabetta Dami

Level 3, 10+ books

These books are beyond silly. And yet, they were the first chapter books my son picked up on his own in Spanish. I have heard the same from other families.

Princesas Dragón

by Pedro Mañas

Level 3, 9 books

I really enjoyed this series about three princesses and a magician. The moral and literary value of it made me place it here in the twaddle category, but it is a fun read.

Ana Kadabra

by Pedro Mañas

Level 3, 5 books

Written by the same author as Princesas Dragón, this series follows a young witch in training. The illustrations are colorful, and my kids couldn't get enough.

Diario de Greg

by Jeff Kinney

Level 3, 10+ books

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series follows the woes of the school underdog. Longer than some of the other books here, but plenty of illustrations to support language.

by Steve Stevenson

Level 3, 10+ books

A fun adventurous tales with a crew of characters learning how to become the best pirates on the high seas.
